My Personal Collection

Last Sunday we stopped at a stand that had a great selection of decorative gourds. They had an extra spooky black gourd with warts all over it that would have been perfect for carving. The gourds were priced for New Yorkers I think, so all we got was the pale green one (left) that I think is a New Zealand Blue. I will carve the large orange pumpkin in the classic Jack O' Lantern style.

At another stand we picked up the orange pumpkin with green stripes. The shopkeep told us that the seeds are very tastey but I'm reluctant to carve it. Up close, the stripes almost look digital. I will roast the last acorn squash.

Cha Cha Update

Cha Cha's found a very dirty sleeping spot. I'm not sure how long the plant is going to be able to take the abuse. It's shedding leaves daily. The other problem is the dirt being tracked around. I would feel bad taking away her tropical paradise but I don't feel like vacuuming every night. One good thing: she doesn't use it as a litter box.

Mao Mao is on vacation in the country this week, enjoying her freedom and some solitude. Cha Cha seems a little lonely without her.

My pumpkin fantasy

I've been trying to find a u-pick place that has a selection like you see here. It seems that weekend pumpkin pickers in the tri-state area are only interested in corn mazes and face painting and baby animals. I would like to see 32 varieties of pumpkins and gourds.

I'm willing to drive up to 2 hours.

Mao Mao and Cha Cha interacting

Mao Mao is curious but a little scared.

Sometimes they eat together.

Cha Cha takes a liking to Mao Mao's window seat.
